The Blessings of Snow

Whenever there’s a blizzard, a hurricane or a squall of one kind or another, it sends a shiver down many a spine, including my own. I worry about a tree falling. I fret about a possible power failure. I double-check our stash of batteries and Duralogs. I rehearse a long list of “what ifs.”  At the end of the day, I count my blessings for two reasons. First, I am beyond thankful for a day with nothing to do and nowhere to go. What a gift! Only a forced confinement could allow me such a luxury. Secondly, a blizzard is a very forceful reminder that pulls at my sleeve and my conscience. It blasts a message reminding me to appreciate the cadre of brave and selfless people who are out there making it safe for the rest of us during a storm. No further ado, I will bid farewell to Stella, the femme fatale who dumped a foot of snow on my driveway, and ask her not to come back any time soon. So there!
